What a Stupid Move!!

On my way to work last night, I had to stop at the gas station and get some gas and coffee. After pumping, I left my car on and shut the door to keep my car warm while I quickly ran in, grabbed my coffee and payed. I am sure you see where this is going. As I get back to my car and went to open the door, it was locked. Yep, that's right, I somehow locked my car with the keys in the ignition! I am still trying to figure out how this happened, because my car has a security measure that prevents this from happening. If the keys are in the ignition, you can't lock the door while it is open, it will automtically unlock itself. This prevents stupid people, like myself, from locking their keys in their car.

To top it off, my cell phone was sitting on my passanger side seat! I ran intside the gas station, and they let me use their phone so I could call work to inform them I may be a little late. I then tried to call Foster, but his civilian phone was off, and I couldn't for the life of me remember the last four numbers of his work blackberry. I stated brainstorming with the attendants about my plan of action. There was a cop in the parking lot, but thanks to one girl sewing the city for a cop screwing up her locks when they helped her get into her car when she locked her keys in it, they no longer carry slimjims to assist drivers. I then realized there was a Tuffy auto shop right behing the gas station. I obtained their number from the phone book and asked if they had means to get into a locked car. Sure enough, they sent one of their guys over with the toold necessary to unlock my car. I was so grateful, and am eternally indepted to this man and Tuffy. Sure enough, I walked into work right as the clock turned 6 pm! Yay!
I am going to have to send them a card, and for sure will be getting my next oil change there. Needless to say, I will never be leaving my keys in my car for any reason, because obviously it has a mind of its own, and likes to lock me out!

Oh Erin, be nice to yourself!! I always tell friends of mine that until they can say they've driven away from the gas pump WITH THE HOSE STILL ATTACHED...they can't claim themselves making stupid moves!!! I consider it my way of making husbands glad that their wife isn't ME!

Oh my gosh! What a story. I find it really annoying that people sue other people for helping them. I've had that problem of needing a slim jim and a police officer, but having no luck. I'm glad you got in okay. And I hope you didn't waste too much gas!

That happened to me too! I locked myself out of the car with the keys in the ignition, car running. I have no idea how it happened either because my car is not supposed to be able to do that. Glad you got back in and to work on time!
